CBC: Some Alberta post-secondary institutions left relatively unscathed while U of A funds slashed, new data shows

The CBC's Janet French was forced to file a freedom of information request to get data on the size of the provincial government's cuts to each of the province's post-secondary institutions. Not surprisingly, her article confirms that the University of Alberta has seen the largest cut to its base operating grant of all PSE institutions in the province at 19% (this doesn't include the UCP's first in-year budget cut, which brings the total cut to $170 million, or over 25%).

"While the University of Alberta had its provincial base operating funding slashed by nearly 19 per cent during the past two years and the University of Calgary 12 per cent, five private universities, MacEwan University and Lakeland College absorbed more modest cuts of about two per cent, according to data CBC obtained by a freedom of information request."
